Precap – Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 26, 2026

In short: Precap only processes a video when you click one of its buttons. It sends that video’s title and transcript to create a summary – nothing about you, your account or your browsing history. No ads, no tracking, no analytics, no selling of data.

What Precap does

Precap is a browser extension that summarizes YouTube videos and checks titles for clickbait. It runs on youtube.com and shows two buttons when you hover over a video thumbnail.

What is processed – and when

Nothing is sent anywhere until you click a Precap button. Then, for that one video:

DataWhyWhere it goes
Video ID, title, channel name, transcript (or description if there is no transcript), language codeTo create the summary and clickbait checkPrecap server, then Google Gemini API
A random installation ID (created on install, not linked to you)To count the free summaries and to link a Precap Pro purchase to your installationPrecap server
Your IP addressTo prevent abuse of the free tierPrecap server – stored only as a salted, one-way hash

Precap does not read or send your YouTube account, watch history, search history, cookies, comments, or any page other than the video you clicked.

What is stored, and for how long

Using your own Gemini API key (optional)

If you enable “Use my own Gemini API key”, the video data described above goes directly from your browser to the Google Gemini API using your key, without passing through the Precap server. Your key is stored only in your browser and sent only to Google. Google’s terms for your key apply; on Google’s free tier, Google may use inputs to improve its products.

Service providers

Data is not sold, not shared for advertising, and not used for anything other than providing Precap.

Your rights

Precap does not store data that identifies you directly. If you have questions or want to exercise your rights under the GDPR (access, deletion, objection), contact us at the address below. You can also delete all locally stored data at any time by uninstalling the extension.

Children

Precap is not directed at children under 18.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top is updated. Significant changes are announced in the extension’s Chrome Web Store listing.
