Frequently asked questions

Chrome says the extension is “not trusted by Enhanced Safe Browsing”.

Chrome shows this to users with Enhanced Safe Browsing for every extension from a new developer – it is about the developer's account age, not about Precap's code. Precap was reviewed and approved by the Chrome Web Store, and the warning disappears automatically once the developer has been in good standing for a few months. You can install it with “Install anyway”.

I don't see the Precap buttons.

Reload the YouTube tab (F5) – this is needed once after installing or updating Precap. The buttons appear in the top-left corner when you hover over a thumbnail on the homepage, in search or in the sidebar.

It says I've used today's free summaries.

Precap includes 10 free summaries to start and then 3 per day; the daily limit resets at midnight (UTC). Summaries that someone already requested are instant and don't count. For unlimited summaries, get Precap Pro in the Precap popup (6.99 € once for 12 months, no subscription) – or add your own free Gemini API key under “Advanced”.

I bought Precap Pro – how do I use it on another device?

Pro is active right away in the browser you bought it from (reload YouTube). The page after the purchase shows an activation code: on another device, open the Precap popup → “Have an activation code?” and paste it. One purchase works on up to 3 devices.

I lost my activation code / I want a refund.

Write to the contact address above and include your Stripe receipt (from the email you got after the purchase). We can restore your code from it. Refunds are handled through Stripe.

Is Precap Pro a subscription?

No. You pay once and get 12 months of unlimited summaries (fair use: 100 per day). Nothing renews automatically.

“Precap is very busy right now.”

The service has a daily capacity to keep it free. Try again later, or use your own Gemini API key for unlimited summaries.

“No transcript available – based on the video description only.”

Some videos (music, some Shorts, videos without captions) have no transcript. Precap then summarizes the description, which is less reliable. YouTube occasionally withholds captions for a few minutes – trying again later often helps.

Which language are the summaries in?

Always the language of the video – English, Spanish, Japanese, German or any other. The labels in the overlay follow your browser language.

How do I get a Gemini API key?

Sign in at Google AI Studio and click “Create API key”. Paste it in the Precap popup under “Advanced”. The key stays in your browser and is only sent to Google.

What data does Precap process?

Only the title and transcript of the video you click – nothing about you. Details in the privacy policy.
